Guidance

We are delighted to announce that CiviCon24 will be held on Tuesday 18 and Wednesday 19 June 2024 at Sheffield Hallam University, and we'd love your input into our event programme.

This event is designed for professionals and academics navigating the civic landscape within higher education, as well as senior leaders who are driving change within their institutions.

Our aim is to highlight exemplary civic initiatives and provide institutions with practical tools to develop and expand their civic involvement.

If you would like to submit a contribution and join us in developing a dynamic and varied event programme, please complete this form here.

The deadline for applications is Wednesday 21 February 2024.

Formats

Interactive workshops (1 hour): Lead a session which delves into the principles, tools, and methods of civic activity. Ensure to explain how the session will be tailored to delegate needs and how you will foster engagement among participants.

Debates and panel discussions (1 hour): Host a discussion or panel conversation. These sessions should offer an opportunity to hear a variety of viewpoints on civic impact. We encourage innovative methods for facilitating these discussions.

Storytelling (5 mins, plus Q&A): Storytelling is a compelling tool for engagement, and we are eager to hear your stories. We invite you to present (and record) your stories of civic success and share your future goals.

Showcase poster or market stall (drop in): Bring your story to life during our showcase with either an interesting poster or by hosting a market stand during lunch and refreshment breaks. This session will provide a dynamic environment for networking and sharing, with delegates moving freely around the display stands.

Other Format (1 hour max): Do you have a brilliant idea for a session that doesn't fit into the categories above? We encourage our contributors to innovate, develop and share new methods of engagement in conference settings and invite you to use this option to contribute something unique.

How we will curate the conference programme

As we shape the final CiviCon24 programme, your submission will be evaluated based on the following key areas:

  • Clarity of session purpose and target participants.
  • Link to (one or more) themes of the Civic Impact Framework to ensure a diverse set of options for delegates.
  • Suitability of the format to purpose and participants.
  • Balance of contributors and other proposals / sessions.
  • Relevance to the target audiences.
  • Extent to which content is engaging, relevant, and accessible.

Final choices will be made by the CiviCon24 planning committee, to ensure the conference programme meets the vision and purpose of the event, covers a range of approaches and themes, and addresses the needs of our varied audiences.

Please complete the application form below with details of the contribution you would like to make. You are welcome to submit up to two applications to the conference – please ensure that you submit separate forms for each one. You can be named as an additional contributor or facilitator in as many submissions as applies.

If your submission is successful, we will be back in touch with you on, or shortly after, Wednesday 6 March 2024 to discuss your involvement further. We may be in touch sooner, if further questions or clarifications are needed about your contribution.
