About
This report sets out an emerging research strategy for civic universities, developed through the National Civic Impact Accelerator by the Institute for Community Studies.
It makes the case for a dedicated civic research strategy and describes a participatory, co-commissioned approach that reduces bias and centres diverse stakeholders. Organised around four themes – environment and climate, social and cultural impact, inclusive placemaking, and health and wellbeing – it proposes priority topics and research questions for universities and partners.
Crosscutting themes of placemaking, ecosystem building and addressing inequalities highlight the need for joined-up, place-sensitive practice. The report acts as a springboard for further research and experimentation, helping civic universities, local government, communities and funders to target research that can accelerate civic impact.
