The Civic University Network has successfully lobbied for universities to be explicitly mentioned as partners in the Government’s recently published prospectus, on the £4.8 billion Levelling Up fund. The Fund will invest in infrastructure to support town centre and high street regeneration, local transport and cultural and heritage assets. Recently writing in HEPI, Professor Sir Chris Husbands and Natalie Day of the Civic University Network, along with Richard Brabner, Director of the UPP Foundation, called on government to include universities because of their proven track record of mobilising and sustaining partnerships and projects in service of our places and communities. With access to the Levelling Up Fund, universities are ideally placed to help drive positive change in socially and economically disadvantaged towns and cities, working in partnership with local authorities, further education colleges and the voluntary sector.
